In January, 21 free COVID community testing sites will open up across Minnesota making it even easier to get tested. These free tests will be the saliva test, so you won't need to get that uncomfortable nasal swab to get a free test!

These free community testing sites will be located in the following cities in Minnesota:

Albert Lea
Anoka
Bloomington
Brooklyn Park
Burnsville
Crookston
Duluth
Hibbing
Hutchinson
Inver Grove Heights
MSP Airport
Mankato
Minneapolis
Moorhead
Morris
St. Cloud
St. Paul
Stillwater
Wadena
Winona
Worthington

More information about the location of these free testing sites and what dates and times they're open is on the MDH website, HERE.

Bring Me the News writes that MDH Commissioner Jan Malcolm said on Tuesday, "'When combined with social distancing, masking, avoiding crowds and staying home when sick, testing can help us slow the spread of COVID-19 and bridge to the better days we know are coming.'"

If you plan to take a COVID saliva test, you shouldn't eat, drink, chew, or smoke anything 30 minutes prior to your test. Once your test is over at the free community testing site, it will be sent to the state's lab in Oakdale and you'll get test results in 48-72 hours, according to Bring Me the News.

When you set up your appointment they will ask if you have insurance. Even if you don't have insurance, the test is still free.

If you're looking for a different location for COVID testing you can learn more HERE.
