Wildfires can spread undeground, creating dangerous ash pits that firefighters or hikers can fall into. Normally it doesn't happen, but with dry conditions it's occuring in the Lake Superior National Forest.

Another wildfire has started in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area. Crews are assessing the situation and asking the public to stay out of the area.

As of this morning, 19,000 acres were affected by the fire which is roughly 29.7 square miles, or larger than Burnsville that has been burned up in the fire so far, and it doesn't look like it might stop anytime soon.
