In his News Release Dienst says, "The home suffered major fire, smoke and water damage. I am grateful the children in the home know what to do when they discovered the smoke. They alerted everyone inside which is why everyone escaped unharmed."

Fire Chief Dustin Dienst commented, “We are grateful that the occupants of the home escaped unharmed. These types of incidents are devastating at any time of the year, but even more so during the holiday season.”

KDHL spoke with the Faribault Fire Chief inquiring about the extent of damage. He did not say it was a total loss but did say the home suffered extensive damage.

The Fire Chief does not have the authority to order a burning ban. Only the Sheriff or the DNR can do make that designation.

AM Minnesota can be heard Monday through Friday at KDHL 920 AM and 97.9 FM between 9:30 a.m. and 10:00 a.m.

The Rice County Sheriff's K9 officer was requested by all of the scheduled events throughout the county.

Often when a cold front replaces a warm front storms occur. Dienst says they will be keeping a close eye on the possible development.

The Faribault Fire Department was very busy this morning with a number of calls following lightning strikes.

According to the plaque, "Not long after the last burial in 1909 the cemetery had been abandoned." The graves of two Civil War Veterans and a War of 1812 Veteran lay buried there.
