Twenty-three years ago. Hard to believe it's been 23 years already. Twenty-three years ago, the day the United States stopped in its tracks -- horrified at what was happening.

The events of September 11th, 2001 will be remembered, and the actions of heroic Americans will be honored tomorrow at ceremonies in both Owatonna and Faribault.

The Moonlighter’s Exchange Club of Owatonna will erect a special Patriots Day flag display on Wednesday, next to the Owatonna Veteran's Memorial. The flags will be raised in the morning and retired at sundown, offering a full day of reflection and remembrance for the community.

Moonlighter’s Exchange Club President, Annette Duncan says,

This is an opportunity not only to remember the lives that were lost but also to reflect on the strength, unity, and resilience of our nation.

The Owatonna Veterans Memorial is located at 450 SE 18th Street.

In Faribault, a 9/11 commemoration ceremony will be held at the city's fire station. The Faribault ceremony will begin at 7:46 am, with Faribault Fire Chief Dustin Dienst delivering the official welcome -- followed by a flag ceremony, bell ceremony, eulogy, and closing remarks. The Faribault Fire Station is located at 122 2nd Street NW.

Patriots Day officially takes place on September 11th each year to remember the lives lost in the September 11th attacks in 2001. Patriot day has evolved to become a national day of prayer, remembrance, and service.

Patriot Day is not technically a federal holiday, and schools and businesses remain open in observance of the occasion, although memorial ceremonies for the 2,977 victims will be held across Minnesota and the nation.
