The crew over at BabyCenter has been tracking the most popular baby names for over 20 years now. They consider a name at risk of going 'extinct' when it drops off the list of the1,000 Most Popular Baby Names. And according to their research, there are several familiar names that are doing the opposite-- and are in danger of extinction this year here in the Land of 10,000 Lakes.

Of course, the term 'extinction' sure sounds kind of severe, doesn't it? According to BabyCenter, they consider a name 'extinct' when it drops off the list of the 1,000 Most Popular Baby Names.

They're not *actually* extinct, of course, like a type of animal might be if it permanently disappears from the earth. There is still the possibility that even these extinct names could make a comeback at some point, but these names are certainly not winning any popularity contests right now.

Boys’ Baby Names Disappearing in Minnesota in 2026

Using March 2019 data from the Social Security Administration, Stacker compiled a list of the most popular names in each of the 50 states and Washington D.C., according to their 2018 SSA rankings. The top five boy names and top five girl names are listed for each state, as well as the number of babies born in 2018 with that name.
