Where is the Mental Health Warning Label on Social Media?
Minnesota passed a law to require social media platforms to display a mental health warning anytime you open the platform. It would let you know that accessing this platform could cause mental health harm and give at least the 988 hotline number.
I wrote about the law at the beginning of June, but you've probably noticed that this warning label has not been seen yet.

Why Minnesota's Mental Health Warning on Social Media Isn't Being Seen
I was so busy over the 4th of July weekend it didn't even occur to me that whenever I opened social media I wasn't given a warning label. Of course, until Monday can, we started to get back to normal life and I thought 'oh yeah, that was supposed to be a thing!'
Turns out, a lawsuit has been filed by NetChoice, which MPR writes is "an industry group representing social media companies".
They claim that the labels are '"designed to block, burden, and browbeat' social media users."
I'd like to note that this warning label is supposed to be just like the warning labels we have on alcohol and tobacco products. Also, it's been proven that social media can lead to poor mental health, so I think a warning label like this is needed.
Anyway, because of this lawsuit, Minnesota decided to put off enforcing the warning label. MPR writes that something similar happened in Colorado last year and guess who filed the lawsuit there? NetChoice.
Mental Health Warning Label on Social Media
I'm hoping this law ends up taking effect soon. I think it's an important step to take because social media isn't going to go anywhere but it's seriously impacting mental health. I think a warning label like this would be helpful.
Assuming the warning label ends up going into effect at some point, MPR says that the state health department approved this warning label:
THE STATE OF MINNESOTA REQUIRES THIS MESSAGE: Some studies have shown that too much social media use is linked to increased mental health symptoms, including anxiety and depression, as well as harm to diet, sleep, and body image. If you need help, call or text 988 or visit 988Lifeline.org.
