Sauer Looking to Transition to Sauk Rapids Mayor’s Seat
SAUK RAPIDS (WJON News) -- Sauk Rapids residents have three choices for the next mayor of their city.
Nick Sauer has lived in Sauk Rapids his whole life. He's been a member of the city council since 2012.

Sauer is an account manager for Border States Electric. He says the two jobs are similar because you need to be able to talk to people and communicate well with both positions.
Sauer says he decided to run for mayor after current mayor Kurt Hunstiger announced he wasn't going to seek re-election, and he would pattern his time in office after him.
I want to be mayor because I want to continue to give back to my community. I have been doing this for quite a few years and I like the direction we have been going for those years and I just want to continue with that.
He says some of his priorities for the city are continuing to improve the roads and transportation, Parks and Recreation including improvements to Mayhew Creek Park, and public safety.
We've worked really hard to make sure that we have enough officers to help keep the city safe. When I first started I think we didn't have two officers on at all times, which I think was kind of scary. Now we are fully staffed.
Another priority for Sauer is affordable housing for first-time home buyers.
As for the downtown area, Sauer says he's wide open to everything from more places to eat to more retail options.
The other two candidates running for Sauk Rapids mayor are Jason Ellering and Andrew Neussendorfer. The two men who get the most votes in the August 13th Primary Election will move on to the General Election in November.
WJON News is featuring the three candidates running for Sauk Rapids Mayor this week. Next week we will feature the six candidates running for St. Cloud Mayor.
