Victim of Weekend Drowning Identified as Minnesota Law Officer
White Beer Lake, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Minnesota law enforcement officer was the victim of a weekend drowning in the Twin Cities.
The Washington County Sheriff's Office responded to White Bear Lake around 2:30 PM on Sunday after receiving reports that a woman had entered the water from a boat and failed to resurface. A rescue operation was launched, and the woman was found underwater approximately 40 minutes later.
The Sheriff's Office reported that she was taken to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead. She has since been identified as Beverly Rodriguez, a sergeant with the Metro Transit Police Department.
A statement issued by the agency said, "Sergeant Rodriguez exemplified the very best of public service through her tireless dedication to the Metro Transit Police Department’s Homeless Action Team. She approached this challenging work not merely as a job, but as a calling—bringing forth her professional expertise, boundless empathy, and generous spirit to serve those experiencing homelessness."

The website for the National Latino Peace Officers Association lists Sergeant Rodriguez as the organization's North Vice President. It includes a notice concerning her passing that states: "Beverly was more than a dedicated leader—she was a compassionate advocate, trusted mentor, and tireless servant to our mission and membership."
The Minnesota chapter of the NLPOA has established a fundraiser to benefit Sergeant Rodriguez’s family.
