He had an actively bleeding stab wound on the left side of his sternum, appeared to be in shock and was drifting in and out of consciousness, the charges say. He was taken by ambulance to St. Mary’s Hospital.

The victim identified Fields as his attacker and said he was stabbed inside of the apartment, the complaint states.

Video of the apartment hallway shows the victim exiting his apartment then collapsing in the hallway. Moments later, Fields was seen leaving the apartment and heading down a stairwell, the charges say.

Police later learned Fields then went to a nearby Hy-Vee where he placed a call and was picked up in a vehicle.

That vehicle was then tracked to the Olmsted County Government Center in downtown Rochester. Officers found Fields inside of the vehicle and took him into custody Monday afternoon, the complaint says.

Conditional bail for Fields was set at $100,000 Wednesday morning. He is due back in court later this month.
