Charges filed Monday in Olmsted County Court say a deputy on patrol in rural western Rochester spotted a pick-up traveling at a slow rate of speed shortly before 11 a.m. on Saturday. The deputy then checked the pick-ups license plates and found the plates displayed were incorrect.

The deputy recognized the driver as 45-year-old Chad Briggs, who was known to have a canceled driver’s license. The deputy then attempted to initiate a traffic stop at the intersection of Valley High Rd. and Roselee Cr. Northwest, however the vehicle driven by Briggs gradually picked up speed, turned onto Olmsted County Rd. 5 where it then accelerated and began driving erratically, the criminal complaint says.

The chase then entered Dodge County where a deputy attempted to deploy stop sticks which failed to stop the fleeing pick-up. The charges say the vehicle then ran the stop sign at the intersection of Hwy. 57 and Dodge County Rd. 16.

Authorities shortly after that called off the pursuit but continued tracking the vehicle. Dodge County deputies then located the vehicle in West Concord and took Briggs into custody.
