Rochester Man Jailed for Threatening Woman with Handgun
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Rochester man was sentenced today to 60 days in jail for a felony conviction stemming from an incident last summer during which he was accused of brandishing a handgun.
According to Olmsted County Court records, 24-year-old Dominique DeShaun Murphy was arrested on August 7 after Rochester police responded to a report of a domestic assault. The court document says a woman at a residence in northeast Rochester told the officers that Murphy had come to her home demanding money and threatened to break her fingers when he tried to take her phone.
It was alleged that Murphy then threw the victim onto a couch and covered her mouth with his hand, preventing her from breathing. At the same time, he was accused of attempting to force the woman's eyes open in order to unlock her phone.
The criminal complaint indicates the woman told police that Murphy then took her purse and other personal items out to his vehicle and she rushed to the door and locked him outside. The woman stated that Murphy responded by pulling out a handgun and pointing it at her front door telling her "not to make him use this" before he went back to his vehicle.

After police responded to the scene, the officers searched Murphy's vehicle and found the victim's property. They also reported finding two handguns, extended magazines holding 28 bullets, and four smoke grenades .
Murphy was charged with felony charges of second-degree assault, simple robbery, terroristic threats, illegal possession of an explosive/incendiary device, and domestic assault. The criminal complaint against him also included a gross misdemeanor count of possessing a pistol without a permit and misdemeanor domestic assault.
He earlier entered into a plea agreement with Olmsted County prosecutors and admitted to a felony charge of threats of violence in exchange for the dismissal of all of the other charges.
In addition to the two month jail term, Murphy was also placed on probation for five years.
