Rochester Area Economy Sets Another Employment Record
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The latest jobs statistics published by the state continue to track the record-setting job growth that has been taking place in the Rochester area.
The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development is reporting total employment in Olmsted County reached another record high in September at just under 93,900. That number is more than 400 above the previous record that was set in August. Over the past year, the employment total in Olmsted County has risen by more than 4100 positions, while the Rochester Metropolitan Area has added more than 7800 jobs.
The unemployment rate last month was influenced by seasonal factors as it dropped from 2.9% in August to 2.2% in September. A year ago, the jobless rate for Olmsted County was reported at only 1.9%.
Across southeastern Minnesota, every county reported lower jobless rates for September. Olmsted County was tied with Wabasha, Dodge, and Fillmore Counties for having the lowest rates in the region. Dodge County enjoyed the largest drop, with its unemployment rate falling more than a full percentage point to 2.3%.
Freeborn County had the highest unemployment rate at 2.6%.
