55-Year-Old Rochester Man Accused of Assaulting Pregnant Clerk, Rochester Police Officer

Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- A Rochester man is facing multiple assault charges for alleged attacks on a pregnant clerk and police officer.

That’s according to a criminal complaint filed in Olmsted County Court on Monday. 

Rochester police responded to the alleged assault Friday afternoon. The court document says the victim did not know the suspect.

55-year-old Muse Shiekh Omar Shiekh-Isse is charged with gross misdemeanor fourth-degree assault of a peace officer, gross misdemeanor obstructing the legal process, misdemeanor fifth-degree assault and misdemeanor third-degree assault of an unborn child.

Officers responded to the assault report at a business located at 117 North Broadway Ave. 

The victim, who said she is 10 weeks pregnant, told police Shiekh-Isse, who is a frequent customer, came into the store and mistook her for someone he knows. 

Shiekh-Isse became aggressive when the victim told him she was not the person he was looking for, the complaint says.

He then came around the counter, punched the woman in the face, threw her to the ground then kicked her in the stomach and back. She complained of stomach and back pain and was unable to walk, the charges say. 

Responding officers found Shiekh-Isse in a different building on Broadway and ordered him to put his hands behind his back. Shiekh-Isse did not comply with officer instructions and punched an officer on the left side of the face, the complaint says. 

Police tried to restrain Shiekh-Isse but he continued to fight before eventually being detained by officers who responded to the scene for backup, the court document says. 

The victim and assaulted officer were both taken to a hospital for care and evaluation, the complaint says. 

Shiekh-Isse made his first court appearance Monday morning. He was released without bail and has a review hearing scheduled for September.
