Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - It appears the City of Rochester is ready to proceed with the construction of a new multi-lane roundabout intersection.

The Rochester City Council Agenda for Monday includes a request to authorize the advertisement for bids to construct the new roundabout at the intersection of 4th Street and 19th Avenue Southeast. The agenda item indicates the project was first proposed in 2019, but it was decided that it was not feasible at the time due to the right-of-way acquisitions that would be needed.

City documents say the property acquisitions have since been completed and the project was planned for 2022, but was put on hold until the steam line from the Olmsted County Waste to Energy Facility was decommissioned to avoid project conflicts. The documents state that the project is currently planned for construction next year and will include the reconstruction of the sanitary sewer and storm sewer infrastructure at the intersection.

The engineer’s estimated budget for the project is just under $3.3 million. About $1.2 million of that amount would be covered by federal funding.
