Kasson Man Admits to Charges After Two Police Chases
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Kasson man has admitted to charges connected to a pair of police chases last year.
According to the criminal complaints against 45-year-old Travis Lee Hughes, the first incident occurred in late April 2024 when a Rochester police officer initiated a traffic stop on South Broadway after spotting Hughes stopped in a traffic lane and revving the engine of his motorcycle, which did not have a visible license plate.
Instead of stopping, the court document says Hughes sped through two red lights before the officer discontinued the pursuit.
Police Say Hughes Had a Gun and Was Over the Legal Limit
The complaint says another officer spotted the motorcycle at the intersection of North Broadway and 37th Street, and about 10 minutes after the initial stop, Rochester police received a report of a motorcycle crash. The report indicated that the driver matched the description of the fleeing motorcyclist and was attempting to walk away from the scene.

Following his arrest, police discovered Hughes was in possession of a 9mm handgun and ammunition. Testing later determined his blood alcohol concentration was slightly over the legal limit of 0.08%.
Second Chase Hit 90 MPH on Marion Road Southeast
The second police chase involving Hughes occurred last September after an Olmsted County Sheriff’s deputy on patrol spotted him driving a motorcycle without a functioning taillight. The complaint states Hughes fled along Marion Road Southeast at speeds approaching 90 mph before the pursuit ended near the Highway 52/Marion Road overpass.
The court document says the arresting deputy drew his firearm and ordered Hughes to get off his motorcycle. Following his arrest, a small amount of methamphetamine was found in his possession while he was being booked into the Olmsted County Jail.

Hughes is scheduled to be sentenced in December.
