Guilty Plea For 2021 Murder of 9-Year-Old Minneapolis Girl

Minneapolis, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Twin Cities man accused of one of a string of shootings in Minneapolis two years ago that injured young children today entered a guilty plea to a second-degree murder charge.

The Hennepin County Attorney's Office says 22-year-old Dpree Robinson admitted to the charge through a plea agreement that resulted in the dismissal of a first-degree murder charge. The plea deal calls for a prison sentence of 37 years.

According to the criminal complaint, 9-year-old Trinity Otteson-Smith was fatally wounded when one of the bullets fired by Robinson at rival gang members struck her as she and her friends were jumping on a trampoline in the backyard of a North Minneapolis home.

Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty says "Trinity was doing what kids should be doing in springtime in Minnesota, playing with friends and having fun outside." She went on to say, "Mr. Robinson's actions shocked our community and devastated her family and all who loved her. I'm hopeful his admission of guilt begins to bring some degree of closure for Trinity's family and the community."

Court documents say the deadly shooting was captured from a distance on a surveillance camera video. It shows the trampoline with the young victim and her friends was directly between Robinson and his intended target.

He is scheduled to be sentenced on March 21.
