Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A former Rochester man has been sentenced for his involvement in a burglary and high-speed chase in Rochester last summer.

32-year-old Taylor Suchla, who currently has a Winona address, recently worked on the plea agreement with Olmsted County prosecutors and admitted to a felony burglary charge in exchange for the dismissal of a felony drug possession charge, a felony theft charge and a misdemeanor fleeing police charge. He was sentenced Wednesday to 120 days in jail. Suchla was also ordered to serve five years on probation and was given a stayed prison sentence of 29 months that he could be ordered to serve if he gets into trouble while on probation.

He and 37-year-old Kyle Felter of Oronoco were arrested on August 27 of last year following a high-speed chase that began when a Rochester police officer responded to a report of a burglary in progress at an apartment building construction site in Rochester. A variety of construction materials, including a large number of copper pipes and a shop vacuum were stolen and the officer spotted Suchla and Felter loading boxes into a van in the parking garage at the construction site.

The criminal complaints against both men indicate another officer spotted the van and the driver attempted to crash head-on into the squad car. The charges alleged the van hit speeds of around 100 mph on Highway 14 before Felter lost control while navigating a turn and Byron in the vehicle ended up on the lawn of a nearby home.

Both men were spotted fleeing on foot into a cornfield. They were eventually apprehended after Dodge County Sheriff's Deputies brought a drone equipped with infrared sensors to the site and it detected their heat signatures in the tall corn. The criminal complaint also stated that Suchla was seen throwing items out of the van during the pursuit.

Felter previously entered guilty pleas to third-degree burglary and a felony charge for fleeing police. He was sentenced to three years in prison.
