That’s according to a news release issued by the Rochester Police Department on Monday morning.
Communications Coordinator Amanda Grayson described the sting as “a proactive undercover operation targeting online offenders attempting to solicit minors for sexual acts.”
Officers arrested the suspect on June 7. 35-year-old Michael Tuma of Owatonna was identified in the news release as the suspect.
Police say he had been exchanging online messages with an undercover police officer who was posing as a juvenile female.
The messages indicated Tuma planned to meet who he thought was the minor female at a park for sexual acts, police say.
Tuma went to the agreed upon location, which was Foster-Arend Park, on Friday morning and was taken into custody, the news release says.
Grayson says Tuma could face charges of soliciting a child through electronic communication and electronically communicating - sexual conduct with child.
He’s being held in the Olmsted County Jail and is awaiting his first appearance in Olmsted County Court.
