Minneapolis, MN (KROC-AM News)- Authorities say the Minnesota man suspected of carrying out a fatal mass shooting earlier this month is now in custody.

The Minneapolis Police Department announced the arrest Thursday afternoon. 

The gunfire took the life of a 33-year-old woman and wounded five others. It happened at Minneapolis park.

Officers took Porter into custody without incident while executing a search warrant at a home in the 7800 block of Terrace Rd. Northeast in Spring Lake Park around 2 p.m. Thursday, police say. 

He was booked into the Hennepin County Jail on suspicion of murder

“As the investigation proceeds, I hope this arrest brings some level of justice and comfort to the victims and their loved ones,” Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara said. 

The gunfire broke out around 9:30 p.m. on June 1 after a large group had gathered at Boom Island Park for a barbecue. 

Investigators identified the woman killed in the mass shooting as Stageina Katraya Shapryia Whiting of Brooklyn Center. She died in the hospital from a gunshot wound to the torso, an autopsy determined.

Five men were hospitalized following the shooting. One suffered life-threatening injuries while the four others wounds were determined to be non-life-threatening. 

A woman also went to a hospital after she suffered injuries in the wake of the gunfire. The fatal mass shooting remains under investigation.
