Howard Lake, MN (KROC-AM News) - A single count of second-degree murder is been filed against the central Minnesota man accused of a deadly workplace shooting on Monday.

The criminal complaint filed in Wright County District Court accuses 23-year-old Kevin Asencio of fatally shooting 20-year-old Adrian Medina in a pickup truck parked outside of their workplace. The court document lists a suspected extramarital affair between the victim and Ascencio's wife as the motive for the slaying.

The charges say the Wright County Sheriff's Office and the Howard Lake Police Department received multiple 911 calls shortly after noon on Monday concerning a shooting at the Dura Supreme cabinetry plant in Howard Lake. One of the callers was described as a "frantic female screaming." Another 911 caller reported that a person inside a pickup in the parking lot had been shot and the suspect was seen driving away in a black pickup truck.

A short time later, a Wright County Deputy spotted the pickup in nearby Waverly and initiated a traffic stop with the assistance of another deputy. The court document indicates Asencio was taken into custody and the deputies located an AR-15 rifle in the pickup.

Using witness statements, cell phone communications, and surveillance video, prosecutors allege Asenio left his job at the Dura Supreme plant and retrieved an AR-15 rifle, two magazines, and additional ammunition from his home after his wife informed him that she wanted to end their relationship. The charges say Asencio then drove back to his workplace and waited in his pickup until his wife and the victim left the plant and went to the victim's pickup to spend their lunch break together.

It's alleged that Asencio then exited his vehicle with the AR-15 and got into the rear passenger seat of the victim's pickup holding the firearm. After an exchange of words, Asencio is accused of firing three shots from the rifle into the back of the victim's head, resulting in fatal injuries.

Ascencio was arraigned on the second-degree murder charge this morning. His conditional bail was set at $2 million.
