If you drive through Waite Park on 2nd Avenue you may have noticed a big change.  It's one of those things that makes you take a doubletake and think... this looks weird.  What was here?

If you were having those thoughts when you were driving by what is now a giant open space, the trees, and a couple of buildings were cleared a few weeks ago.  There was no sign as to what was planned for the area.  There were some thoughts that it may be another spot for some new apartment buildings.

That was not correct.

The new open space has now been claimed as the "Future Home of the Metro Bus Western transit Center".

If you are someone who regularly rides the metro bus, this might be just the thing that you have been looking for.  Especially if you live on the Western side of town.  Unfortunately, if you were hoping that this would open up service to St. Joseph, that is not in the plan.  But, the plan is to continue to service the St. Cloud, Waite Park, Sauk Rapids and Sartell areas.  The benefit is that the trips will be shorter, and will have more access.  So your time on the bus will be lessened.

Back in March when the project was announced, our sister station, WJON let you know what the plan was for the area.  Now, there is signage on the future site.

A timeline for when the project will be completed has not yet been disclosed.
