A PEACE GARDEN

If you love the smell of lilacs, you are going to want to head out to Boomerville Lodge in Cold Spring to experience a unique maze that has been in the making for the past 22 years. I spoke with Mike Nistler, the Hobby Farmer, who created the lovely fragrant maze by planting about 500 lilacs around 22 years ago. Mike told me that those 500 lilacs have spread to approximately 3,000 on his farm today.

BOOMERVILLE LODGE

The Boomerville Lodge is located on a farm that was established in 1852 near Cold Spring. Boomerville Lodge is cleverly named as it is aimed at baby boomers and baby boomer wannabes.

Boomerville Lodge hosts events of all kinds from wedding events, to birthday and anniversary parties, to class reunions and more.

LOVELY LILAC MAZE

But this time of year, they have something extra special. Although we are probably a couple of weeks early, now is the time to plan on heading to Boomerville to enjoy the lilac Maze that is normally ready to enjoy by Memorial Day Weekend. Last year, everything bloomed early. This year, the lilacs are not quite in bloom yet, but when they bloom, you are in for a real treat.

Imagine the wonderful aroma of your lilac bush, multiplied by 3,000! Yes! Once the lilacs bloom, you'll be able to walk through a wonderland, uniquely created out of a maze of lilacs, which will take you about 3 to 4 minutes to walk through.

NO CHARGE -GOOD WILL DONATIONS ACCEPTED

There is NO charge for experiencing the labyrinth, but donations are welcome. Each year, Mike and his wife donate 100% of the proceeds to someone in need. In the past, they have helped a Veteran get through some tough times, and that gentlemen is still going strong today. Last year, they had a neighbor that was in remission from cancer, whom is so incredibly thankful to have that kind of thoughtfulness in some of her darkest moments.

MEET HERB THIELEN

This year, 100% of the donations will be going to help Herb Thielen of Richmond who recently retired after working incredibly hard his entire life. He recently had a stroke and the funds are going to be helping him in his time of need.

I asked Mike what he wanted people to know about Boomerville Lodge and the lilac maze. Mike said, "This is just a peaceful place where we can all be with each other, and not think about our political differences. When people come here, they seem to put all that behind them. It's our Peace Garden."
