The Lincoln Ave road construction project that is currently underway will see some more progress being made, as soon as next week. The construction project will be moving closer to Division/Highway 23, with crews expected to strip/grind off the pavement before beginning utility work.

Utility Work Continues On The Southern End Of Lincoln Ave

Currently, the construction crew is working on the water main under the intersection of 7th Street SE and Lincoln Ave SE, as it was discovered there were leaking valves that needed to be replaced, leading to the intersection being shut down this week.

The intersection is expected to be opened up sometime this week, with work most likely wrapping up on the water main and filling the hole back in, weather permitting, by Friday.

Road Work Moving Down Towards Division/Highway 23

In a construction meeting Wednesday morning, it was discussed that next Thursday, the 31st, equipment would be delievered to remove the street surface before utility work would begin. That work would be between 4th Street and Division, limiting some access to Runnings and Cashwise while the work is being done.

Access will still be available for those businesses during this project, but you might have to go through the parking lot at Runnings to access Cashwise, or detour down 7th Street to the new frontage road, and down 4th Street SE to access Cashwise or Runnings, depending on where the work is being done.

Storm Water Catch Basins and Sewer Pipes

Locals will begin to see work that runs across the road, which has to deal with storm water. When the trenching work begins, for the new pipes that will carry storm water towards the middle of the street, sections of the road won't be accessible, and drivers will have to switch ends to enter a business, utilizing the proper detour.

Customers Are Learning Ways Around The Construction

Customers of the businesses along Lincoln are going with the flow, which is encouraging; however, it should be noted that traffic shouldn't detour through the First Fuel Bank lot, the tank access lids weren't designed for the amount of traffic they are seeing with people cutting through, avoiding the rough road.

The best way to access the Lincoln Depot, the BP station, Townsquare Media, or the Value Connection would be to use 7th Street when it opens up to traffic again sometime tomorrow.
