Although there are a lot of great brands of soft drinks to choose from, Coca-Cola remains incredibly popular in the United States.

In fact, recent statistics showed that Coca-Cola's U.S. market share was 46.3%, with PepsiCo coming in second with 24.7%. Based on those numbers, it's safe to assume that soft drink lovers enjoy the flavor of Coca-Cola, but some may not know that there are a limited number of bottles now on Minnesota store shelves that are made with a different ingredient.

People who are in the know are looking for yellow-capped bottles of Coca-Cola, and they are buying as many of these bottles as they can.

No, this is not another massive New Coke experiment. The reason some Coca-Cola bottles contain a key change of ingredients is an important one, especially this time of year.

Coca-Cola Bottles With Yellow Caps Are In Stores Now

If you didn't already know, a Coca-Cola bottle with a yellow cap indicates that the soda inside is made with real cane sugar instead of corn syrup. This is significant because it means it's kosher for Passover.

Passover is a Jewish holiday during which many observant Jews avoid certain foods, including those made with corn syrup, so this special version of Coca-Cola is made for a limited time to accommodate dietary restrictions during the holiday.

I've talked to several people, and they all agree that this more natural version of Coca-Cola tastes better than the regular recipe that includes corn syrup. If you're wondering why they don't just use real cane sugar all the time, it's because of the cost.

This shift to high fructose corn syrup in the United States reportedly began in the early 1980s, driven by factors like government corn subsidies and import tariffs on cane sugar. So, while natural cane sugar may taste better, it's not as cost-effective to use year-round in the U.S.

Thankfully, the yellow-capped Coca-Cola that is available now for a limited time costs the same for consumers as the regular bottles of Coke.

If you can't find any yellow-capped Cokes at your local grocery store this month, or you want to drink Coke made with natural cane sugar all the time, you'll need to find bottles of Mexican Coke. Mexican Coke is made with the same all-natural ingredients as the kosher for Passover version, only it will cost you more.
