It's always best to not take any chances when it comes to public safety and the City of Duluth is making a big move after discovering a potentially dangerous situation in a Duluth neighborhood.

While it will be inconvenient for those in the area, it's certainly better than what could've happened had this action not been taken.

Duluth city officials make the formal announcement at the end of the week.

City Of Duluth Announces Partial Road Closure On Friday, October 4

According to its Friday Facebook post, the City of Duluth is closing the section of Idaho Street that enters into and exits out of Duluth's Morgan Park neighborhood, effective immediately.

This decision was made after getting troubling results from a structural review of the railroad bridge that passes over that section of the street. The review found the CN Railroad-owned and maintained bridge has suffered advanced deterioration, which raised public safety concerns.

Because of those findings, city officials say that passage beneath it is no longer advised and that section of road is officially closed. The public is asked to observe signage and barricades in the area.

People looking for access to the Morgan Park neighborhood will still be able to get there through the main entrance point at 88th Avenue West.

The affected section of Idaho Street will remain closed until further notice and there was no estimated timeline announced. One would assume it will remain closed for as long as it takes for the CN Railroad to repair its bridge so that can pass inspection. Until that day comes, stay away.
