I Was Astonished At How Much It Cost At The Laundromat
We've been fortunate enough to have a washer and dryer in our home for many years. It was a sticker shock when I actually had to go to the laundromat yesterday to do a huge load of laundry.
It's probably been 15 years since I've stepped inside a laundromat. I was so naive, I grabbed a pouch and filled it with quarters for the machines.
It was only when I arrived at the laundromat that I realized they don't even take quarters anymore. Instead, they take a credit or debit card. If you don't have one of those, this laundromat has you deposit cash into a machine and gives you a card to use. It was all cashless at the machines.
The whole reason I went to the laundromat was to wash a pile of heavy sheets and comforters we had in the basement. I went to one of the "huge load" machines and loaded it up. I then went to pay when I saw $12 on the reader.

$12. For one load of laundry. That's just to wash it. I was already there, so I swiped my card and started the load.
When it was done, I went over to the dryer and saw it was $5 to dry the load.
Didn't this used to cost just a couple of bucks? When I was in college 20 years ago you could do a couple loads of laundry for just a few dollars of change.
How can families afford this? Most people who are using a laundromat are renters who are already paying a premium for rent. At these laundromat prices, it's something you need to put in your monthly budget!
