It's always sad when vandals take it upon themselves to destroy other people's property for no apparent reason. I've never understood how someone could do such a thing, and it makes me especially mad when it happens to a small group or community that often struggles to repair or replace what has been damaged.

That is what recently happened to the Western Duluth Little League, which was first founded in 1961 and is currently the oldest Little League Baseball organization in operation in Northern Minnesota.

Now, they hope people in Minnesota will rally and help them rebuild an important part of their league.

Vandalism Strikes Western Duluth Little League

According to its website, the Western Duluth Little League's mission is to 'provide a positive introductory baseball experience for the youth of Western Duluth. In addition to strong baseball fundamentals, players are taught important life skills such as teamwork and sportsmanship.' The program also prepares players for more advanced levels of play.

Recently, vandalism occurred at the concession stand, which is a vital part of their league. This has created an unexpected challenge, and now they have a deadline of Friday, June 6, to raise the funds to repair it and replace all that was lost.

According to a GoFundMe page established by Julie Benfield, the Western Duluth Little League's concession stand was vandalized and severely burned. This stand has been a pivotal part of their games, providing refreshments and a gathering spot for families and fans.

The fire damaged the structure and electrical system, and destroyed essential items like first aid supplies, an AED machine, tables and chairs, trophies, hats and shirts, refrigerators, and all the food and drink supplies.

Now, they are reaching out to people in Duluth and beyond to help raise $10,000, which would help restore a vital part of our league. Funds raised will be used for repairs, to restock the contents of the concession stand, and to purchase necessary equipment such as shelves, counters, fridges, a microwave, and other necessary supplies.

The deadline established to raise funds is Friday, June 6, as that is when a large-scale tournament is scheduled to begin, and having a functioning concession stand is important for both the league and attendees.

They welcome all contributions, regardless of size, as they all make a difference. Click the button below if you'd like to donate.
