One of the best parts of shopping at Costco is trying some of the free samples. If you hit the warehouse at the right time, you can get enough samples to make a meal. (Trust me, I've seen it.)

I've found some of my new favorite products from the demonstration team. (That's what they call them, demonstrators.) A couple months ago we tried the Amylu Chicken burgers and now we get them every time. Seriously, you need to try these!

How do they pick what they sample?

Yahoo did a story about how they decided what they sampled earlier this year. There are several factors. In most cases, it's because the companies want their product to be sampled and it's part of their agreement with Costco.

They also could be sampling items that aren't selling well or products they have an abundance of.

When's the best time to find the most free samples?

If you're looking to avoid crowds, you probably won't get a lot of free samples. Costcos are very busy on weekends with families buying up their bulk items. It's a zoo in there on weekends, but it's also when they have the most free samples.

Experts say you should go between 1 and 2 pm on Saturdays or Sundays for the most samples.

Did you know there isn't a limit to how many samples you have?

Maybe it's 'Minnesota nice', but I've always thought you could only take one sample. Save enough for everybody, right? It turns out as long as you aren't knocking people over and grabbing the entire tray, it's not a big deal to get seconds or even thirds. Most demonstrators at the store don't care who eats the samples.
