The Zumbrota-Mazeppa Cougars compete in the Class A State Wrestling Tournament  at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul on Thursday. Kenyon-Wanamingo Head Coach Matt Ryan told KDHL on a recent K-W coaches show whichever team survived the Section 1 tournament would be very capable of coming home with a state championship trophy.

Z-M nipped K-W last weekend 27-26 to advance, and the Cougars are seeded third at state. At 11 a.m. Thursday on KDHL, Z-M will wrestle against West Central Area/Ashby/Evansville (24-2). The Cougars are 29-5. Top-seeded Minneota (32-2) faces Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City (17-7). On the same side of the bracket, second-seeded Frazee (15-2) meets Pierz (25-4). The other match pits Section 2 representative Jackson County Central (21-7) against fourth-seeded Lake Crystal-Welcome Memorial Area (18-8).

The semis are at 1 p.m. and the championship is at 7 p.m. The third-place match is at 5 p.m. and the consolation matches are at 1 p.m. and 5 p.m.

In the other tournaments, Class AA Section 1 representative Albert Lea (33-1) is seeded second and opens with Foley (26-5) at 9 a.m. Third-seeded Scott West (15-2) hits the mat with Milaca/Faith Christian (24-8). Top seed Simley (26-5) faces Worthington (21-6) and fourth-seed Totino-Grace (15-8) collides with Perham (25-3).

Class AAA Section 1 champion Farmington (24-10) is seeded fourth and opens against Prior Lake (22-9). Top seed Apple Valley (19-2) faces White Bear Lake Area (20-7). Second-seeded St. Michael-Albertville (24-2) competes against Moorhead (18-6) and third seed Willmar (27-0) wrestles Centennial (18-7).
