The Play Ball Minnesota Ms. Softball award winner was announced during a banquet Sunday night in Minneapolis.

Zumbrota-Mazeppa senior Morgan Olson was a Ms. Softball finalist but didn't receive the award.

Olson led her Zumbrota-Mazeppa Cougars to their first state team championship in any sport while allowing just one run in 21 innings of pitching in the state tournament and just four hits. She was named to the All-Tournament team for that and her hitting.

Olson will attend North Dakota State University this fall on a softball scholarship and play outfield for the Bison.

Last year former Kasson-Mantorville pitcher Maddie Damon won the title of Miss Softball. Damon is the all-time strikeout leader in Minnesota high school softball history. Damon is a member of the Purdue Boilermakers softball team.

Play Ball Minnesota chose Rogers senior pitcher Kayla Kemmetmueller for the award. Kemmetmueller led her Royals team to a 23-3 record this past season before losing in the section championship to Buffalo.

Olson's Cougars had just one loss this season and did not lose to a Minnesota team. Their only loss came against Hudson, Wis.

The other finalists were Carlie Brandt, senior pitcher from Le Seuer-Henderson; Farmington senior Carly Esselman; Prior Lake's Angela McBeain; Eden Prarie's Lauren Oberle; and Mankato West pitcher Lexi Schoper.
