Winona, the top-ranked Class 4A team in Minnesota, clobbered Mankato West 38-13 Friday night at Paul Giel Field in Winona, ending the Scarlets 19-game regular season winning streak. The Winhawks held West to 219 total yards, according to the Winona Daily News. West (3-1) entered the game ranked No. 3 in Class 5A. The victory puts Winona (4-0) on the inside track for the Big Southeast, Blue Division title.

No. 2 rated Owatonna does not play Winona or West in the regular season this year. The Huskies and Northfield are tied atop the Red Division of the Big Southeast District with a game looming on October 13 in week seven of the season.

OHS whipped Rochester John Marshall Friday 42-6. Northfield beat New Prague 24-6 to improve to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in the Red Division, just like Owatonna. The Northfield News reports that two Raider quarterbacks combined for about 200 yards passing, but the team only gained about 100 yards on the ground.

Owatonna's homecoming opponent for September 29 is Mankato East, who pulled away from Red Wing 58-18.

Faribault scored their first points of the season, but Austin cruised to a 42-8 win. The Austin Daily Herald indicates the Packers returned a fumble and an interception for touchdowns. Tate Hebrink had a touchdown pass and run.

Rochester Mayo beat Century 45-13 to retain the Addington Cup traveling trophy.

The schedule for September 29 is Mankato East at Owatonna, Rochester Mayo at Faribault, Red Wing at John Marshall, Northfield at Austin, New Prague at Mankato West and Winona at Century.
