Wille Nelson, ‘The Wall’ – Exclusive Acoustic Performance [Video]
Attention Willie Nelson fans! The singer’s newest studio album ‘Band of Brothers’ will street June 17, but in the meantime, to whet your appetite, here’s an exclusive acoustic performance of one of his new songs ‘The Wall.’
It’s an acoustic performance of the song — just Nelson and Trigger, his trusty old guitar. But the performance is anything but simple. His trademark voice and stealthy guitar playing captivate, as do the poignant lyrics as he sings, “I took on more than I could handle / Bit off more than I could chew / I hit the wall.”
‘Band of Brothers’ includes 14 songs, including nine brand-new tracks penned by the prolific singer-songwriter himself. This record is his first of predominantly new original material in nearly two decades, the last being his ‘Spirit’ album in 1996.
He explains the absence of new music, saying, “Roger Miller probably said it best. Every now and then, the well goes dry. And you have to wait until the well fills up, and you start writing.”
The well certainly filled up for Nelson, and the proof is in ‘Band of Brothers.’ The album includes several covers, including Vince Gill‘s ‘Whenever You Come Around,’ and Billy Joe Shaver’s ‘The Git Go’ (a duet with Jamey Johnson). Although Nelson is 81 years old, there’s no signs of him stopping — which is a really good thing for country music fans.
