Monday afternoon I was out spraying my corn. It was just two weeks before that the corn was hit by the frost. All the leaves above the ground froze off. A week ago there were new leaves but the top leaf was still attached to the dead leaf. Agronomists refer to this as the corn plant being tied up or buggy whipped. The corn leaf must break free or the plant will die or, if it does survive, it will not produce much of an ear. Agronomists said they should be able to break free and it would be OK.

It was still a long week, actually two weeks, wondering how the corn would recover. You can see from the picture that the agronomists were right. There may have been a few plants an acre that did not recover but overall the plant population is very good. There were a few fields of corn that had to be replanted. However, in many of those there were other issues compounded by the frost. Hopefully this is the only "curve ball"  mother nature has for us this year?
