The sun was out off and on and it was a bit breezy at times at Todd Park in Austin and it was a great atmosphere for a section softball playoff game on Tuesday.

The Faribault Academies Cardinals were the visiting team and were able to get Tess Glenzinski on with a walk in the first and a base hit from Breanna DeGrood. Grace Viland got up with another hit and knocked in Glenzinski and then Shelby Meyer got on. The Cardinals would have picked up two more runs but Viland was called out for interference with a Wabasha player and the other runner had to come back to third.

Wabasha got on the board with two runs in the second and it was 2-1 Wabasha until the bottom of the fourth when they scored seven runs, and then added two more in the bottom of the fifth to invoke the 10-run rule and win 11-1.

Wabasha went on to defeat Mabel-Canton 7-6. They will take their 15-10 record into the section championship on Thursday against Hayfield at Todd Park at 5PM.

The Cardinals end their season at 17-6. Seniors Breanna Degrood and Shelby Meyer were the State Farm Insurance agents of Faribault Players of the game.
