US Bank Stadium is complete and the grand opening took place July 23 and July 24. Legislation approving the stadium was passed in May 2012 and the design was unveiled in May 2013. Demolition began on the Metrodome in January 2014 and in May it was announced that the stadium would host the 2018 Superbowl, followed by the news in November that that US Bank Stadium would host the NCAA Final Four in 2019. The stadium’s first major event will be a soccer match between Chelsea F.C. and A.C. Milan on August 3, followed by a Luke Bryan concert on August 19 and Metallica on August 20. Recently, KDHL’s Colin Landsteiner had a chance to visit the new stadium and get a few pictures.

Read all about the stadium in Colin's own words:

"After over a decade of waiting, the Minnesota Vikings and their fans can finally rejoice the completion of their new mansion. US Bank Stadium celebrated its opening on July 22 with a ribbon cutting ceremony and their was an open house that invited fans to check out the purple palace on the 23rd-24th. I (Colin) was one of the many lucky fans who stopped US Bank Stadium last weekend and it left an incredible first impression.

"Many of the people who've visited the stadium will say the roof makes it feel like they're outside. The glass roof allows for sunlight to come into the stadium. The day I toured US Bank Stadium it was pouring and, although we didn’t get to see the sun shine through the glass, it created a unique atmosphere in the stadium. The 240,000 square feet of ETFE is the most used in any building in the country. Some other notable buildings that use ETFE in their design include Allianz Arena in Germany and the Cube, which was the facility used for swimming in the Beijing Olympics."

The five pivoting glass doors are said to be the largest in the world. When you see them in person you’ll understand why. Colin’s thoughts on the seats: “Ahh, more leg room is appreciated and the purple seats make the stadium feel like home.”

"The screens in this building are gigantic. The stadium concourse allows fans to walk right under them on their way to their seats. The two video screens are about 10 times larger than the ones in the Metrodome.

"The walkways in US Bank Stadium are lit up and full of local art. The majority of the walkways allow fans to see the field from the concourse, which will be nice for the people who leave their seats during the game. The concourse is large and offers plenty of locations for restrooms and dining."
