It's a shame, but the Minnesota Twins will not have any starters in the American League lineup when they host the 85th All-Star game at Target Field next month.  No Twin is close to gaining a spot and two are deserving in my opinion.  You could make the argument for Kurt Suzuki at Catcher and Brian Dozier at Second Base.  Dozier cranked his 13th homer of the season in Toronto last night which ranks him first by far in that category.  Robinson Cano of the Seattle Mariners is the top vote recipient thus far at the position and has two more RBI's, but he bats third in the lineup while Dozier has led off most of the season (more RBI opportunities for Cano).  Dozier;s :246 batting average places him sixth among American League Second Basemen.  He's second in stolen bases with 13 and is by far the leader in walks with over 40.  He Currently ranks 4th in the All-Star balloting and it would take every person in Minneapolis and St. Paul voting for him to get him a start.  Suzuki has an even stronger case after his 3 hit effort last night raised his batting average 10 points he is tops in the American League among catchers in hitting at .307, is tops in RBI's with 29 is second in doubles with 12 and second in hits with 54 in the fewest games played among the top six catchers in the American League (50).  Baltimore's Matt Wieters is leading the voting despite being on the disabled list and not exactly ripping the cover off the ball before that.  Man are the catching ranks thin. Derek Jeter looks like he'll start at shortstop despite poor numbers. A .254 batting average, 1 homer and 12 RBI's with one stolen base (those are even lower numbers than Joe Mauer).  Alexi Ramirez of the White Sox deserves the start, tops among shortstops in batting average .316, homers with 7, RBI's with 36 and is third in stolen bases with 12.   I understand what Jeter has meant to the game of baseball and it's his last season, and I'm not saying he shouldn't be on the team, but starting ?  The starting outfield looks like it will be Jose Bautista of the Blue Jays, Mike Trout of the Angels and Melky Cabrera of the Blue Jays.  Miguel Cabrera of the Tigers at First, Oakland's Josh Donaldson at Third.  Pitchers are chosen by the Manager.  Join me in stuffing the ballot box for Suzuki and Dozier because they've EARNED IT!
