Update: Franken To Resign.

Update. Senator Al Franken announced on the Senate Floor this morning that he will resign in the coming weeks from the Senate. He said even though he does not remember some of the incidents as differently than those of his accusers and some allegations he said are not true. He feels that during his time in the senate he has been a champion of women. He went on to say it's been a great honor to serve. He took shots at the President and at another candidate running for the Senate, saying it's ironic that he is leaving the Senate when someone in the oval office and a candidate are accused of some of the same behavior. Governor Dayton will appoint a successor. Early speculation is that it might be Lt. Governor Tina Smith.

This was his announcement on Twitter: "Senator Franken will be making an announcement tomorrow. More details to come."

This after yet another woman has accused the Minnesota Democrat of sexual misconduct.

The woman says Franken tried to forcibly kiss her in 2006 while she was working as a Congressional aide. Franken has strongly denied the accusation. But after the story surfaced in Politico, several female Democratic senators used their social media accounts to call on Franken to step down.

The Senate Ethics Committee has already started an investigation into the earlier allegations.

Franken is serving a second term after being re-elected in 2014. If he does resign, it’s expected Gov. Dayton would appoint a successor who would hold the office until a special election was held next November.
