This afternoon I went out to the farm to haul beans. I had some sold for January delivery and the elevator manager said I could start hauling. It was a cloudy dreary day but it was warm. I would much rather haul on a day like today than when it is barely above zero with a couple of feet of snow. It has happened that I have had to spend an hour moving snow just to be able to start hauling beans. It is also nice to be hauling when no one else is. That means no waiting in line at the elevator.

I have never been very excited about storing corn or beans for a long period of time. You have to keep checking it to make sure it is not going out of condition. I look at the bins as a convenience to get the harvest done quickly. Then I sell the cash and buy a futures or option contract.
