It couldn't have been a better day for the football debut of the new Vikings' US Bank Stadium on Sunday. The sun was shining and the air was electric as it buzzed with excitement at the anticipation of the day's preseason game between the Minnesota Vikings and the San Diego Chargers that would kick off the first season of football within the NFL's newest shining star slated to host the Superbowl in 2018.

My wife and arrived early, having heard about some of the parking issues and entrance problems. The parking cost gouging is true, with some of the nearby ramps charging $35-$50. We found a ramp about three or four blocks west of the stadium that was $20, but my daughter and her boyfriend found a lot that only charged $10. You just have to be willing to look around.

There were plenty of activities for kids and adults alike in the plaza outside the stadium including games, the Hy-Vee Skol Line (drum line), live music, the Vikings cheerleaders and more.

We were misdirected as to where our gate was, but once we got into the right area it was really easy to get to our seats and there were several food stands to choose from. My advice is to look around first, the hotdogs at one of the stands were a little pricier than the rest and buy your nachos early. The line for that looked to be about a half-hour long, so I skipped that treat.

Once at our seats I noticed there was a little extra leg room compared to the Metrodome, but the seat width still seemed the same, with the gentleman next to me encroaching into my space because of his size. Other than that they were comfortable enough for hard plastic seats and we had a pretty good view of the action. The massive screens at either end of the field were picture perfect and the sound, although a little loud, packed a solid punch and added to excitement of the game. Seeing the sky and sunlight streaming in through the glass and translucent wall and ceiling just added to the game experience for the record-setting crowd of 66,143 fans.

Getting out after the game was a piece of cake and even the drive out of Minneapolis went smoothly. It was a great day for a fun game at the Viking's new stadium. And, oh yeah, the Vikes won 23-10.
