It had been about 10 days since I had been out to the farm. I planted the pea beans July 15, and with the Rice County fair last week I did not have time to stop by until Tuesday afternoon. As I approached my first farm I concentrated on the bean field. I was hoping my herbicide program was adequate and there would be no weeds coming through the bean canopy. I was pleased that I could not see any weeds in the bean field. Then I looked at my corn and was surprised at what I saw.

I noticed that some of the corn leaves were cut or shredded. My first thought was, it looks like I had some hail! I stopped and talked with a neighbor and he said early Sunday morning, July 17, we did get some hail. I called my insurance agent and turned in a claim. I always carry some hail insurance on top of my revenue crop insurance. It looked to me like the hail damage was not real serious, but we will see when the adjuster comes out.
