As a former Twin Cities area Boy Scout leader of more than 15 years, I know pancakes. We had a once-a-year pancake breakfast fundraiser. Pancakes were often on the menu on camping trips. Scouts and their leaders make good pancakes.

So you need to head to the Knights of Columbus Hall in Faribault on Sunday. Troop 306 is hosting a pancake breakfast from 8:15AM to 12:15PM with all of the good stuff on the menu -- pancakes, French toast, scrambled eggs, ham and sausage. You won't go away hungry, and the price is great, too: $8.50 for adults at the door and children younger than 10 are $4.

I think Scouting is still a very worthwhile activity. Scouting has taken its lumps over the years, with some bad publicity due to some bad leaders. But if you have a leadership team in place following the rules, everyone should have a safe and enjoyable time. And the boys will learn some important life skills. And there are some programs for girls, too, in troops that have Explorer Posts. Contact your local troop or go to scouting.org to learn more.
