State High School Title Games are Monday at Target Field

The Minnesota State High School League will host the four Minnesota State High School Baseball championship games at Target Field Monday.

The Class 1A title game at 10:00 a.m. will have the Parker’s Prairie Panthers playing the Legacy Christian Academy Lions.

This is the only title game where the teams are the #1 and #2 seeds.  The Panthers are the #1 seed.

Parker’s Prairie came into the State Tournament with a team batting average of .360 and in 25 games had 84 stolen bases.  Their team ERA is 1.68 and their opponent batting average .187.

Legacy Christian has a team batting average of .324 going into the tournament and has 108 stolen bases in 23 games.  They sport a 0.90 ERA.

The Class 2A title game is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. and the defending State Champion and top seed Minnehaha Academy Redhawks will play the #3 seed Pierz Pioneers.

The Redhawks entered the State competition with a .322 team batting average while opponents hit .204.  Their team ERA is 1.58 and they had 50 stolen bases in 25 games.

The Pioneers hit .314 with an opponent batting average of .191 and a team ERA of 1.02.  They had 57 stolen bases in 26 games and had just 33 errors entering the tournament.

The Class 3A State Championship is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. with the top seed Waconia Wildcats playing the Hibbing Bluejackets.

The Bluejackets provided no statistics for the High School League and did not garner a top five seed in the tournament.

Waconia came into the State Tournament with a .341 team batting average and their opponents hit .212.  The Wildcats had a 1.86 team ERA and had 42 stolen bases in 23 games while their opponents were held to 7 stolen bases.

The Class 4A title game features the #2 seed Forest Lake Rangers and unseeded Eden Prairie Eagles.

The Eagles entered the tournament with a .257 team batting average but have been belting the ball in state competition with a 9-1 win over defending state champion and top seed Wayzata in the opening game and 14-0 five inning win over Lakeville North in the semifinals.

They’ve had excellent pitching all year with a team ERA of 1.57 and had 27 errors in 24 games entering state tournament play.

Forest Lake had a team batting average of .297 and team ERA of 1.33 with 23 errors in 24 games.

I’m sure it’s a thrill for these high school players to get to play where the Twins play their games.

If weather is an issue the games will be at CHS Field in St. Paul on Tuesday.
