The final day of Farmfest is always special because I get to help with the Farm Family of the Year Program. The Farm Family of the Year is sponsored by the University of Minnesota Extension Service. Local County Extension Committees pick their Farm Family of the Year and they are recognized  at Farmfest. There were 70 of Minnesota's 87 counties represented at Farmfest. Governor Dayton was there with an official  declaration that Thursday was Farm Family of the Year day. Dean of Extension Dr. Bev Dergan was there along with President Dr. Eric Kaler.

Dr. Kaler began his remarks by saying that they loved pigs at the University of Minnesota. Not just because he had a great pork chop for lunch but also because of a special pig he brought along. Then they took the box off of Floyd of Rosedale sitting on the stage. Being a Gopher football fan and hearing about Floyd of Rosedale every time we played Iowa it was fun to see it. President Kaler had to get back to campus but left Floyd so everyone could get pictures. President Kaler put Tom Rothman in charge of getting Floyd of Rosedale back to campus. I did offer to take Floyd back through Faribault and promised to get it back to campus in a couple days but Rothman did not think that was a good idea!
