The Area Special Olympics softball tournament in Sunday July 12 at Alexander Park in Faribault. Volunteers are still needed.

Teams from Owatonna, Waseca and other communities will take part in traditional softball, coach pitch softball and skills competitions Sunday at Alexander Park in Faribault. The park is located at 1814 2nd Avenue NW right next to the Rice County Fairgrounds.

Special Olympics organizers are still seeking volunteers to assist in various areas. Umpires, scorekeepers and awards volunteers are still needed. Training on the day of the event is offered. The tournament runs from 8AM to 4PM. Various shifts are available. Volunteers must be at least eight years of age and will receive a t-shirt and lunch. Fans are also invited to attend and cheer on the athletes. Special Olympics athletes participate in sports while living the motto, "Let me win. But if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt." Special Olympics offers year-round sports and social opportunities to over 8,000 Minnesota children and adults with intellectual disabilities.
