I would like to send a special thank you to Roger and Rhonda Toquam and their boys for hosting the annual Soybean Planting Broadcast on Friday afternoon. The name of the Toquam farm is Five Generation Farms as Roger and Rhonda's boys represent the fifth generation on their farm. The Toquams raise corn, soybeans and finish about 4,000 pigs at a time in their hog barns. Their home farm is north of Blooming Prairie and just south of Claremont.

One of the objectives of the Soybean Planting Broadcast is to educate consumers on how many different businesses farmers depend on to plant a crop. Roger refers to them as Toquam Family Farm business partners. Roger and Rhonda came up with 22 business they depend on, all of them local. Only 1 or 2 percent of the population in the United States are farmers raising crops and livestock. However all of these jobs in the agriculture service sector represent about 20 percent of our economy! Everyone needs a farmer three times a day for the food they eat, But many people do not realize their job depends on farmers.
