Special thank you to Randy and Jeremy Hanson from just south of Nerstrand for hosting the annual soybean harvest this afternoon. Soybean harvest is pretty well finished in our area, although I did see one soybean field that was not harvested when I was driving out to the Hanson farm. We always try and get the soybean harvest broadcast scheduled when soybean harvest is pretty well complete. It is a little less stressful that way. As it turned out it was a very good bean harvest.

The Hansons are Gold Country Seed dealers and they had a test plot on their farm. They had soybean varieties that yielded more than 70 bushels an acre. Many farmers in the area had whole farm averages of 55-65 bushels an acre. Bean prices are much lower than they have been the past three or four years. Having 10-15 extra bushels an acre to sell helps with the pain of low prices.
