South Central College in Faribault restarted its carpentry program this fall and program instructor Mark Paddock discusses the program on AM Minnesota today.

I hope you can tune in at 9:30AM to hear details about the program.

It was dropped several years ago due to no jobs in the industry with an economic downturn. The prediction now is a need for more construction industry workers in the Faribault region and around the state, as well as nationally.

South Central College's description of their program states, "The SCC carpentry program will provide you with the core hands-on training you'll need to become skilled in the carpentry craft and will prepare you to tackle the more complicated aspects of this enduring profession as well."

According to information provided on South Central's website, the average annual wage for a construction worker in the state is $46,696, and nationally the average is $42,786.  The SCC website posting doesn't stipulate whether these are entry-level jobs.
