One day last week I was in my sweet corn field with the Gator picking up a few rocks. It was more than 20 years ago we had a dozer and backhoe burn and bury a building site. Of course we did get all the proper burning permits! Since that time I am still picking up rocks, pieces of metal and other things that have worked to the surface. I saw this metal rod sticking out of the ground about one foot. It was still in the ground so far I could not pull it out.

I went back with the 4020 and loader to pull it out. It was still about 3 feet in the ground. I suspect when the co-op applied the anhydrous ammonia last fall, the chisel plow hooked it and pulled it out of the ground. My first thought was I was really lucky becaue that rod would have easily punctured a tire. It would have done a lot of damage to the row cleaners or units on my planter, too. I sprayed that field, worked it with the field cultivator and planted it. Three trips over the field and I did not hit the rod. If that isn't good luck I don't know what would be!
