Soil Health Field Day Thursday Canceled

I just received a call from the Rice County Soil and Water Conservation District that this field day has been canceled! With all the rain and more in the forecast the field is just too muddy. The Soil Health Field Day was scheduled for Thursday, September 8 at the Jeff Jirik farm in Rice County. The program is from 10AM to 2:30PM. There is no cost and does include lunch. Please call the Rice SWCD if you can attend at (507) 332-5408. From I-35 take exit 66 and head west on County Road 1 for 1.5 miles and then turn south for a quarter mile.

Some of the topics include herbicide options for interseeding cover crops with Craig Mauer from Central Farm Service, interseeding cover crops with Gibbon-area farmer Keith Hartman, soil erosion since settlement with NRCS Soil Scientist John Beck, cover crop root growth with Kristen Brennan, assistant state soil scientist, and cover crop mixes and seed availability with Werner Farm Seed and Albert Lea Seed House. There will also be equipment on display.
