Someone reported to Faribault High School they saw a social media threat regarding "shooting up the school" and it didn't take long for authorities to determine the threat was not credible.

Superintendent Todd Sesker told KDHL he received a call from Faribault High School administration before 8AM reporting the information and Faribault police responded and quickly determined there was no credible threat toward Faribault High School.

In an initial note from the superintendent to the buildings, it stated they believed they were able to trace the threat back to a person in the metro area and said the person was taken into custody.

Faribault Police Chief Andy Bohlen told KDHL there was no arrest made and, in discussing the note with Sesker, he said authorities in the metro did question a person and determined they were not the author of the information that was placed on Snapchat.

The Faribault Public Schools superintendent was very appreciative of the quick response by Faribault police and the way administrators handled the situation at Faribault High School.

Sesker said this is a prime example that they take all threats seriously.

Authorities are still investigating the origin of the post on social media and Bohlen said it appears a former Faribault student repeated something on his post about a threat that someone was going to "shoot up my school."

Someone saw the post and thought the former Faribault High School student was still going to school in Faribault and notified the school administration when in reality the threat was never made against Faribault High School.

Snapchat is a photo and video messaging app. It launched in 2011.

According to Verizon Wireless, Snapchat conversations disappear after you leave a chat and Snapchat stories are groups of images or videos that are available for 24 hours and can be viewed repeatedly until the time limit is up.

Afterward the photos and/or videos disappear.
